Celebrate Arbor Day 2007 with the Delaware Center for Horticulture
The Delaware Center for Horticulture is teaming up with city schools, the City of Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department and the Mayor’s Office to celebrate Arbor Day on Tuesday, April 24 at Kosciuszko Park.
This year’s focus will be on the environmental value of our trees and the Wilmington Beautification Commission’s work to beautify and improve urban green space and parks. Activities will include tree plantings, educational sessions and a speech by the Mayor. Engaging the community in planting trees within this precious open space improves both the neighborhood and the regional environment. Working with school children, DCH strives to encourage environmental stewardship among Wilmington’s youth.
Days prior to the event, contractors, sponsored by the city parks capital projects funding, will prepare Kosciuszko Park by removing dead trees, pruning dead limbs, and preparing planting areas. On the morning of Saturday, April 21 community volunteers are invited to participate in a day of planting. Environmental improvement efforts will continue as children and volunteers lend a hand at the Tuesday, April 24 Arbor Day celebration and plant trees to ensure that a precious park space continues to thrive for generations to come.
